Wilton has long been a great resource for cake decorating ideas and techniques. We carry their idea and reference books, because sometimes, it’s nice to flip through a book you can feel.
More of us, however, are reaching for our technology in the kitchen and on the couch. (It’s certainly a lot lighter than those big recipe books!) I know I’ve played with several different apps for recipes at home (Evernote Food is one of my favourites right now)
I downloaded the new Wilton iPhone app last night to check it out and see if it’s worth while. Turns out, it is. It’s actually really informative. Here’s the list of features from the Wilton website:
- Browse large and vibrant photos of more than 3,000 cake, cookie, cupcake, and other treat ideas
- Filter ideas by treat type, occasion, theme, rating, and difficulty level
- Get easy to follow step-by-step instruction in the app’s “Decorate Mode”
- Read ratings, reviews, and answers to frequently asked questions
- Much, much more…
My favourite feature (and this is something I look for in all apps) is that the information is all in the app; it doesn’t try and redirect you to the website unnecessarily. You’ll find links to sub recipes (like an icing) that are easy and intuitive to follow. The filters allow you to drill down your search and find what you’re looking for, and you can bookmark your favourites so you can go back to them easily! You can even build a shopping list of Wilton products so you won’t forget anything when you’re at the store. I’d be interested in hearing what others think of it?
