As we prepare for gardening and fresh fruit and vegetables, we inevitably come up with the question, what should I do with all this produce? I’m excited to offer three appliances that can help. And they’re on sale until May 12th (or the warehouse runs out of stock), so keep Mom in mind! (Mother’s Day is May 11th)
Unlike freezing and canning, drying fruits, vegetables, jerky and spices at home requires only a small amount of energy to make and none to store. Avoid the preservatives of commercially produced snacks and enjoy the full flavour and nutritional value of local produce. My own dehydrator is a L’Equip Filter Pro, I chose it because of the built in filter (I have a long haired black cat), digital controls and timer. It’s really easy to use, very quiet and consistent. Wondering what to do with a dehydrator? Has yours been hiding in a cupboard, unused? Check out BackpackingChef.com for lots of great ideas! (think camping) If these amazing appliances are out of your budget (they’re not exactly entry level), come in and chat with us about less expensive options. We have a great juicer ($119.99) and smoothie blender ($82) from Cuisinart with 3 year warranties that are also great machines. Happy Spring!L'Equi Filter Pro Dehydrator On Sale for $159.99, Regular $179.99
Dried Fruit Fact: A 3 x 5 inch snack-size bag holds half a cup of dried apples, the equivalent of one and a half small apples, and weighs only one ounce instead of half a pound.
Omega VRT Juicer On Sale for $409.99 Regular $429.99
With the Omega Heavy Duty 350 Vertical juicer you can make fresh juice out of just about any fruit or vegetable including leafy green and sprouts, berries, citrus fruit and even wheat grass. It has lots of power with yet takes up very little space on the counter because of the vertical design. Most juicers process the juice at a high speed of usually 1650 to 16,000 RPM destroying many of the healthy enzymes and causing the juice to break down not long after being extracted. The VRT HD350 model (Vert for short) juices at a low speed of 80 RPM which prevents oxidation and allows the juice to be stores up to 72 hours in the fridge. Because of the low speed, the Omega VRT HD350 juicer is also very quiet to run in comparison to the high speed juicers.
